you know you're a style/fashion blogger when...

In all facetiousness, especially because some of these don't apply to me, you know you're a style/fashion blogger when...
  • You worry about it getting dark because you might get jumped you need to get your outfit shots done before sundown, and using flash is the devil
  • Even though it's slimming and terribly chic, sometimes you hesitate to wear all-black because it's so difficult to photograph
  • You have an Outfit Poses repertoire
  • Your boyfriend or significant other is your photographer
  • On a scale of Necessary to Stripper, 5" heels are closer to Necessary
  • In your mind, VW and MJ are Vivienne and Marc before they are Volkswagen and Michael Jackson/Jordan
  • The name Rumi refers to a skinny half-Japanese girl before it refers to a Persian poet
  • You consider "fierce" one of the highest compliments anyone can give
  • You've scrolled through literally thousands of photos on style.com during Fashion Week
  • ...while in class/at work/instead of doing homework
  • You know whose shoes Lady Gaga wore in her "Bad Romance" video, and thinking about it makes you a little sad
  • You've ever seriously considered wearing black lipstick on a day other than Halloween
  • You live in or want to live in New York
  • You have felt jealous of a thirteen-year-old with cotton-candy-colored hair

Let's Get Some Shoes

Just in case you live under a rock and you haven't seen this...

And even if you HAVE seen it... see it again. It makes me happy every time. :)

Happy Friday! Go get some shoes!

flunky

According to dictionary.com, which accords with my memory of what a flunky is from my On The Razzle days,

flunky (n.): a male servant in livery.

I'm going to pretend this is also an appropriate word for when I flunk math tests. Man, was I feeling flunky. I'm in a flunk. FLUNK YOU, MOTHERFLUNKER.

Gray cardigan: Uniqlo. Floral shorts: mother's. Fake pashmina: gift. Rings: Forever21, estate sale. Gray t-shirt: Cal Student Store. Black tights: generic. Black and white saddle shoes: Payless.

year of the tiger

[via]

Ringing in Chinese New Year's with some shots of red and something new. Actually, my brother got me this ring a few years ago, but I've never worn it because it barely even fits on my thumb. (I wedged a plastic/rubber ring under it so it would fit for the day.) New enough.

[EDIT: OH SNAP I just caught my own ring pun.]

Blazer: City Triangles. White button-down: hand-me-down. Neck tie thing: hangin' around the closet. Silver ring: gift from my brother. Red PE shorts: thrifted. Leggings: United Colors of Benetton. Wedges: Nina.

From Sketch to Shoe to Rejection

This shoe is one of my favorites and it's not being made. It happens way more often than I'd like unfortunately.
We rely on stores like Nordstrom and Macy's because without big orders, shoes just don't get made. That means that shoes that don't "fit in" at Nordstrom or Macy's don't usually get bought by their buyers.
Well apparently this shoe didn't fit what they think their customer would like. It's the nerdy shoe with a great personality that nobody picks to be on their team in P.E. cause she's not the cheerleader shoe. Don't worry nerdy shoe, the cheerleader shoe will peak early in life and get pregnant her first year of junior college.
Ummm. Ya.

It starts with an idea-
I saw this vintage lucite heel (that is not my wrinkly thumb) and thought it was so pretty and could be very Betsey.
Then, there was this Charlotte Olympia shoe that was such an amazing shape...

Based on these two things, plus the other ideas I had for a group of vintage inspired shoes, I drew a sketch...

I thickened the heel shape and changed the platform a bit. I added a sweet little bow as a maryjane strap.

Then after a trip to China and a few prototypes, the real deal was finished!

Pretty awesome! :)

Unfortunately... we won't see it in stores. They didn't think you'd like it/buy it. Maybe they're right but I wish they would have tried.

blinders

And I was like omg, yes, I DO have something to wear to your Lady Gaga themed party!
