The Clog Debate

Ever since I saw the girls clomping down the runway at Chanel's Spring 2010 show, I thought... Hmmm. Really? I've never liked clogs as there's nothing sexy about them and they are technically frumpy.

I remember even proclaiming that you would NEVER catch me in a pair of clogs. No matter who said they were cool!

Then I saw Miu Miu's clog...
Cute...ish. Still not sold.

But then these babies, also Miu Miu-

Kinda love them. Maybe because they're not opened up? I think they're really effin cool, though clearly too heavy for Spring.

This month's cover of British Vogue has Alexa Chung wearing clogs (Chanel I think) that she looks pretty great in. Then again, I personally think she looks great in most things.

So I've decided to go try some on tomorrow and see if I can get into it. This looks like a Spring trend that I will either have to pass on or try out in a cheaper way.

This one by Steve Madden seems OK and basic for a trial pair.

And of course, this beauty by Jessica Simpson that I should have bought before it sold out everywhere. Not a clog but clog-ish.

What do you all think? To clog or not to clog?? Will YOU be braving this trend or leaving it to the pros?

FASH WEEK/MONTH/DAMMIT SO LATE

My folder says I have 258 more images to go through after this post. If I do 10 per post, I'll be done in 25.8 posts. (See, I'm working on my math!) Well CRAP, you guys. I hope you're in for the long haul. (P. S. Long Haul is a Decepticon.)

Since I'm working through my images alphabetically, let's start off with this dress from ADAM. While the silhouette is really simple, the gold/taupe combination is just so so pretty:

Another look from ADAM because I like giant knitwear and the skirt looks like it's blooming on the model's legs:

Another ADAM because giant knitwear ahoy! This totally makes me think of 90s grunge, but prettier and lazier. It's probably the chiffon that does it. Anyway, the belted oversized sweater is killing me:

Another ADAM. Giant knitwear. Belt. Chiffon. Long skirts. Is there a pattern here?

From Alberta Ferretti, because it is a dress, and I am a girl, and it is taupe and shiny at the same time. Let's get married:

Something from Alexandre Herchcovitch that I'm not fond of, but the lapel and the detail on the bottom of the coat is interesting. Like a marbled peacock.

These OMG leg buckles from Altuzarra are greater than any Hot Topic bondage pants I wanted during my misguided youth:

Ahahaha. From Andrew Gn. This is adorable. Black velvet, bustier, gold appliques, PEPLUM, what's not to like?

Also from Andrew Gn. This is like the Mama version of the above dress. You know, if these dresses were a rich, well-heeled mother-daughter socialite pair:

And something from Anne Valerie Hash, whose show I'm glad I did not witness in person because I probably would have tried to run my hands all over the model to find out if the fabric feels as much as it looks like a jellyfish having a ménage à trois with surface tension and static electricity, and then I would've been banned from ever going to Fashion Week again and that would just be so not on:

epic thrift list

I'm taking classes in Berkeley this summer, but my warm-weather wardrobe is woefully lacking. (I blame San Francisco's non-summers for this sartorial gap.) Thus, my Epic Thrift List for Summer 2010:

Kittens, inspired by... kittens! Which is to say... sheer black blouse and sheer off-white lace blouse inspired by yellow, non-skinny, non-denim pants (and actually sheer off-white lace blouse, too) inspired by Erin, mint/seafoam inspired by Airam, coral inspired by Emma Pillsbury (seriously), knee-length skirts inspired by Urban Outfitters (argh) inspired by the 1940s, and a chambray skirt/dress because I feel like it.

fail better

These outfits may be from three weeks ago, but the idea that I need to FAIL BETTER is completely fresh. Here's the game plan:

So since I can't accomplish anything (anything) without being half-assed unless I make a decision, I'm going to make a decision. Right now.

I am going to perform at 100% for linguistics (I don't think I can do any less for something I actually like...) and at least 90% for computer science/math (because it's hard for me to go all-out for things I don't love). 90% isn't everything, but it's more than I'm giving it right now. I know this adds up to 190%, but I never said I was good at math. (Which is why I need to work harder at it.)

Why? Why not choose uncertainty, and excitement, and fear? Because this decision is easier to back out of. It's never too late to feed your inner 6-year-old with crayons. But it can be too late to set yourself up for a secure future. And if I decide later that I want to tell security to fuck off, I can. But for now, I need to lay a path for myself that lets me have the most options available later.

It's like me choosing to go to Cal over UCLA. Because I knew I would regret it less later.

And now that I've made that decision, and now that it's public, my life just got a lot simpler. Prioritizing what to do with my time/self/effort is going on autopilot in 3... 2... 1...

formspring

Hi. I'm from a generation that needs instant feedback. Please formspring me! Readers, haters, spambots - I'll take anything. Seriously. Desperate for attention (and a better haircut).

Love,
Samantha

[EDIT: The questions I've answered are posted at my formspring page and my tumblr.]
