Jeff got hired at the Mill Marine Bistro, so he met up with me after my shift and we went out to celebrate with dinner & drinks at Six Acres. Jeff thought the place was a little too hipster-y; I thought it was just great.

I get kind of overly excited about trips to the used bookstore. Plus I didn't use my credit the last time I traded in books, so I still had $11 of free book money! And yes I already had a copy of that Coupland book but I loaned it to someone and then that someone moved to San Francisco so I figure I will probably never see it again.

Not too long ago I wrote how the beginning of Prince of Thorns made me uncomfortable. But after reading several very complimentary reviews I have to acknowledge that I have probably totally misjudged this book. I can live with being wrong-- but I can't stand the idea that I might have been unfair.

This is what I got at Powell's. For less than $100! I honestly think that's the least I've ever spent there.

Jeff and I awoke at the unholy hour of 6am and had breakfast and packed up the car. We drove to my mom's and helped them pack up their car and finally got on the road around 9:30. Had a picnic lunch at a rest stop, and landed in the lovely town of Ashland, Oregon around 9pm for dinner at a delicious brew pub. Admitting that our original goal of reaching Redding was perhaps too ambitious, we stopped for the night in Yreka, just over the California border.
