Movie Trailer: Men in Black 3

I don't believe this trailer is here yet, so here's a movie I've been excited about since before it was ever announced:

My analysis of the trailer: the same kind of movie as the second, with perhaps a little less blacksploitation, but clearly not as dark as the first film either. Tommy Lee Jones is clearly barely going to be in it, which is very disappointing, but just as clearly he showed up in the studio so I imagine it has more to do with Captain America or some other film in production than an unwillingness to return to the franchise, which speaks a little bit of good for the movie. Despite this, I'm a huge Men in Black fan and a huge Will Smith fan, so I'm willing to give this movie a shot and hope that they do away with the obligatory "time traveling Will hits on his own future mom" scene that has been a genre cliche ever since Back to the Future. What are your thoughts?

"G.I. Joe: Retaliation" Trailer

Mostly I'm shocked that anyone thought the first movie warranted a sequel. This looks better, but that's not saying much. Maybe Bruce Willis can redeem it, but I'm still kind of baffled that this was made.

"John Carter" -- Official Trailer (Updated to Include Second Trailer)

Plot Synopsis: John Carter of Mars is inexplicably transported to the mysterious and exotic planet Mars, and becomes embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions and discovers that the survival of the planet and its people rests in his hands.

John Carter is a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). John Carter is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

I haven't read the series of books written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, on which this movie is based, but there's something to be said for a movie that has source material going back to the early 1900's. I hear that many movies made since then borrow from Burroughs' books, but I'll ignore all those other movies and try to enjoy this based on its own merits.

New Trailer-- "The Hunger Games"

This looks so good!

About THE HUNGER GAMES

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 16 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following.

Lionsgate will release THE HUNGER GAMES on March 23, 2012.

Trailer-- "John Dies at the End"

I remember thinking the book looked interesting when it came out, though I never had the chance to read it. Now I'm thinking it must have been very weird.

"Limitless" Trailer

This is the first movie that has really interested me since "Inception."

SYNOPSIS

Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro star in Limitless, a paranoia-fueled action thriller about an unsuccessful writer whose life is transformed by a top-secret “smart drug” that allows him to use 100% of his brain and become a perfect version of himself. His enhanced abilities soon attract shadowy forces that threaten his new life in this darkly comic and provocative film.

Aspiring author Eddie Morra (Cooper) is suffering from chronic writer’s block, but his life changes instantly when an old friend introduces him to NZT, a revolutionary new pharmaceutical that allows him to tap his full potential. With every synapse crackling, Eddie can recall everything he has ever read, seen or heard, learn any language in a day, comprehend complex equations and beguile anyone he meets—as long as he keeps taking the untested drug.

Soon Eddie takes Wall Street by storm, parlaying a small stake into millions. His accomplishments catch the eye of mega-mogul Carl Van Loon (De Niro), who invites him to help broker the largest merger in corporate history. But they also bring Eddie to the attention of people willing to do anything to get their hands on his stash of NZT. With his life in jeopardy and the drug’s brutal side effects taking their toll, Eddie dodges mysterious stalkers, a vicious gangster and an intense police investigation as he attempts to hang on to his dwindling supply long enough to outwit his enemies.
