Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Role in "The Dark Knight Rises" Revealed

~From MovieWeb

I'm quoting this directly because this is the first site I've seen that prints this as fact and not rumor.

Sounds interesting. You gotta give Nolan credit for not pulling out the same old, worn down storylines.

The plan was to keep Joseph Gordon-Levitt's role in director Christopher Nolan's upcoming sequel The Dark Knight Rises a secret. The actor was confirmed to be involved with the project on Friday. Now, an insider from Christopher Nolan's camp has stepped forward to reveal more information about this trilogy ending sequel.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone, aka The Holiday Killer. The character figured heavily in the original comic book story The Long Halloween, in which Alberto, refused a place at his father's side in the Gotham Mafia, goes on a Halloween killing spree. He then continues to pop up on various holidays, taking out members of the criminal underworld. He is captured by Bruce Wayne after murdering Sal Maroni.

Tom Wilkinson portrayed Alberto's Mafia chieftain father Carmine Falcone in Batman Begins, which brings this trilogy full-circle. It is not clear at this point how The Holiday Killer will figure into the storyline of The Dark Knight Rises, which also includes villains Catwoman and Bane.

At this time, Christopher Nolan is continuing to fine-tune his script. Production on The Dark Knight Rises is set to begin later this year.

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Cast to Play Villain in "The Dark Knight Rises"

If I hadn't already seen "Inception" I might be scratching my head over this one. But, since I have, I'm fairly excited.

~From Screen Rant

We’ve known Tom Hardy would play a key role in The Dark Knight Rises for quite some time, but it was only recently when it was confirmed that he would be playing the villainous Bane character alongside Anne Hathaway who is also joining Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise as Selina Kyle. If two hot Hollywood actors joining an already powerful cast for the sequel to the biggest comic book movie of all time wasn’t enough, it might soon become three….

In what seems to be becoming a full-on Inception reunion for director Christopher Nolan, growing star Joseph Gordon-Levitt is next in line to join the star-studded cast of The Dark Knight Rises.

Deadline has the exclusive on a big update to previous rumors about Levitt being a candidate to join the cast of Nolan’s third and supposedly final Batman film. While there are no specifics on what character he would play, JGL is currently in talks to join the cast of The Dark Knight Rises and speculation immediately points towards JGL playing another villain in the film.

While Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a busy schedule going forward, it turns out that he has enough of an opening to participate in the filming of The Dark Knight Rises, and will be good to go when production begins this Spring.

If you’ve been following the development of Batman 3, and the obligatory rumor mill associated with it, a fake (but maybe not all fake) casting grid made its way online back in July and on it was Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s name along with the character he was being looked at for: The Riddler.

I think he's got the goods....

Anne Hathaway Cast as Catwoman

Just saw this over at The L.A. Times...

Anne Hathaway will play Selina Kyle, the slinky and savage outlaw who is known as Catwoman, in next year’s Christopher Nolan film “The Dark Knight Rises,” according to a press release from Warner Bros.

Tom Hardy, already announced as a cast member, will play Bane, the chemically created brute who first appeared in the comics in 1993 — making him a far “younger” villain for Nolan’s Batman mega-franchise, which has most prominently featured the Joker (who first appeared in 1940) , Two-Face (1942), Ras Al-Ghul (1971) and the Scarecrow (1941).

Catwoman — then just called “The Cat” – first appeared in 1940 as the creation of Bob Kane and Bill Finger, and she has brought leather-clad sexual tension to the Batman adventures both on the page and beyond; she was portrayed by Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt and Lee Meriwether on the 1960s television series starring Adam West as the caped crusader, and Michelle Pfeiffer memorably cracked the whip in the role opposite of the masked Michael Keaton in Tim Burton’s 1992 film “Batman Returns.” In 2004, Halle Berry starred in the character’s own solo film, “Catwoman,” but the film became an infamous flop and was jeered by comic-book fans after director Pitof jettisoned years of comic-book lore and character touchstones.

Nolan, in the Warner press release, said: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.” Of Hardy, who worked with Nolan on “Inception,” the director said: “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with his brother, Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his wife and longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. “The Dark Knight Rises” hits theaters on July 20, 2012.

She's certainly beautiful enough. I'll reserve judgement on whether or not she can pull off the attitude until I see it. So far Nolan hasn't steered us wrong, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Love the casting of Tom Hardy though.
