24 February 12

business class
We upgraded to business class on our flight from New York to San Juan, and it was the greatest thing. Free booze, seats that turn into lounge chairs you can sleep in, a tv that has numerous movies & shows & video games, hot nuts, hot towels, delicious tortellini dinner. No wonder people pay outrageous amounts of money for it.
We got to our hotel in Isla Verde around 12:30am (Atlantic time) and had a drink on the rooftop bar before retiring. Traveling is always so exhausting that nothing could have been more wonderfully peaceful than clean, crisp hotel sheets and the sound of the surf.

Grocery shopping, stew-making. This dinner is entirely vegan and gluten free, mostly by happy accident.

18 February 12

breakfast sandwich
Jeff made me breakfast: bacon, avocado, cheese, tomato, and pea shoot sandwich. I forget what I did after that. Maybe nothing.

12 February 12

jelly doughnut cupcakes
We brought all our cupcakes to Grandview Park just before 1, and there were people there giving away free bread and organic produce! What good karma. It only took us about fifteen minutes to give them all away, thanks in part to Steph's shouting "FREE CUPCAKES!" at the top of her lungs, and probably also because it was Commercial Drive and the cupcakes were all vegan (people were seriously thrilled). Jeff and I came home and made soup with the free vegetables, and ate it with the free bread.
See a few more photos from the day here.

04 February 12

pickled
My mom and Jimm were staying at the Four Seasons overnight for Jimm's birthday, so we had dinner at the restaurant there, Yew. The food was fantastic, and the space was really nice too: high ceilings, jars of pickles and preserves on display, glass tile placemats... My after-dinner Irish coffee came with shaved chocolate on top and walnut biscotti on the side, how lovely.

28 January 12

apple fritters in whiskey maple glaze
Jeff and I went to the vegan brunch at Malloreigh's, and then hit up a garage sale which was mostly garbage, but everything was free. In the night time I ordered a pizza all for myself and Amanda and Laryssa came over; we drank beers and watched glorious 90s movies (Foxfire and SLC Punk).

Indian food
Jeff and I drove down to the states for a belated holiday get-together with his American relatives. We traded gifts and stories, drank some beers, and ate so much Indian food.

savoury beet tart
Cookoff day at Yaara & Adriana's. Pretty small, only nine people - almost half of the last one. Above is Veronica's winning entry: a roasted beet and garlic tart with a gluten free pastry. Check out the blog to see all the entries and winners!
