30 December 11

broken mirror
I got off work at lunchtime and convinced Jeff to come meet me for food & beer at the Irish Heather. Afterwards we wandered around Gastown taking some photos until it got too cold and rainy to continue, and Jeff had to go to work.
Quite pleased with how this one turned out.

25 December 11

trying out new lenses
Lovely Christmas day at the parents' place, complete with someone moving my mom to tears, breakfast booze, too much food, laughing until it hurts, and offensive board games.

12 December 11

the golden hour
I had to leave work after like an hour because my back was in so much pain I could barely think. Jeff picked me up and we went to the clinic where my doctor assured me it was muscular, and gave me a prescription for T3s and instructions to take it easy at work for the next week or so. We went over to the Indigo in North Van to look for a particular book I couldn't find at Chapters on the weekend, and afterwards had breakfast at Moodyville's. I filled my prescription and we came home, where Jeff got ready for work and I sat gingerly in a chair, in a daze watching episodes of Boardwalk Empire.

hydration

Jeff and I made a couple of stops on our way to Quesnel, one here at a winery & bistro just north of Cache Creek. We sat on the beautiful shady patio and tasted fruit wines and ate delicious sandwiches. I really love the drive up north; there's so much beautiful scenery and it's nice to feel really far from a big city once in awhile.

Jeff takes the plunge
A basically perfect day, beginning with hearty diner breakfast followed by fruit wine at Elephant Island, and five or six other wineries thereafter. Bistro lunch. Lounging and swimming in the lake. Driving to Okanagan Falls for ice cream at Tickleberry's. Dinner at the pub. Reading in bed.

watch winding
I'm so lucky to have such a well-dressed man in my life. He dropped me off at Steph's and then we watched Harry Potter movies and ate food all day.

dangerous surf
We stopped at this danger beach so Jeff could chase waves and I could pick up rocks. We stopped again to play in the water in Crescent City, and spent the night in Newport. Had dinner at a really nice waterfront bistro that was kind enough to put the hockey game on for us.

sore eyes
Jeff and I decided to go to a few other wineries with the car on the day following the bike tour. By far our favourite was Peju, where the wine was delicious, the winery beautiful, and the service fantastic. But we also quite enjoyed Franciscan, where they had a lovely patio and the woman serving us waived the tasting fee and kept giving us free tastings because we made a list of Okanagan wineries she should go to when she visits there.
I got heckled everywhere because of my Canucks jersey, and in the evening we went to a pub to watch the game amidst Sharks fans, and after we won we had another Italian dinner down the street.

wallflowers
Jeff and I met up with Ray and his lady Lauren for drinks and food at The Wallflower (I felt a bit guilty about going there because of Kaylie, but Ray can't eat gluten so I'm not going to fault his choice too much). I drank some gin and ate some poutine and we laughed and talked and went home.

19 March 11

moss and boots
We had some coffee and read at the espresso cafe in Maple Falls, and then decided to take Chuckanut Drive from Bellingham to Mount Vernon. What a fantastic choice that was! It was gorgeous the whole way; I would love to do it again with more time to just stop and meander through a few of the little towns, and check out the coast a bit more.

I was reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and was totally absorbed in it. I didn't even stop reading in the car when I started to feel moderately nauseous. When we got to Dorothy's, she saw the book in my hand and exclaimed loudly over it, and said she'd understand completely if I was a bit anti-social. Even at the symphony I was reading it during the intermission.

We drove home via the Peace Arch and got in around 1:30 - neither of us really relished another restless night's sleep at the trailer.

18 March 11

We stayed at the trailer in Washington on Friday night to make easier the drive to Seattle on Saturday. The dogs were so excited to see Jeff that it took him almost ten minutes just to be able to get his coat off.
