wintery backyard
Taken at night, but to me the light looks like early morning.

scenes from a bus
Jeff and I went to The Refinery for dinner. Since I'd only had drinks & flatbread there with Liang, it was still basically new to me and everything was incredible. I highly recommend not only the food, but having the bartender custom-make a drink for you with your choice of liquor. I told him I liked old fashioneds and he made me a glorious concoction involving bourbon, brandy & benedictine, and something sweet and lemony.

22 December 11

Van Dusen
Jeff and I had dinner at the Roundel and then tried to go to Van Dusen Gardens, but we got there at eight and the lineup was all the way out in the parking lot, so we didn't really feel like waiting out in the cold for half an hour just to pay $13 to go in and walk around in the cold for half an hour and then go home.

fountain at the Sheraton
Jeff took me for a birthday dinner at Sip on Granville (because The Refinery was booked up). Afterwards we took pictures of pretty lights until my hands froze.

25 November 11

dancing ghosts
Jeff and I went to two house parties that could not have been more different: the first, a group of people laughing and chatting over wine, cheese, & homemade desserts; the second, a loud, dark house filled to bursting with people, many of whom I'd never seen before in my life. We had a great time at both.

November ghosts
It was super rainy, and after taking this photo, Jeff and I cozied up in bed with mugs of tea and watched Cast Away.

31 October 11

pumpkins on the doorstep
The pumpkins Sarah and Onur came up with. On Halloween Jeff made pumpkin soup and we ate it while watching The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror and handing out candy. And eating candy.

28 October 11

watching the street
I still felt awful but couldn't afford to miss another day of work. I took a nyquil and went to bed early.

Granville St, Friday evening
I had a second date with Liang; we were going to go to the movies but the lineup at the theatre was literally out the door, so instead we had drinks and flatbread at The Refinery, and kissed goodnight in the middle of Granville Street.

17 September 11

gluten-free birthday cake
Sarah had her birthday party at the house. Basically we just ate a lot of food and drank a lot of wine and talked too loud and people smoking cigarettes outside saw our neighbours having an argument in which they were throwing dishes at each other.

Bedroom window self-portrait. I've been so unimpressed with what I've been shooting lately, I'm ashamed to even put it on flickr.

18 June 11

the ghosts of Christmas past
In the daytime Jeff and I met up with his mom for lunch at Acme Cafe, and then we went downtown to see what Granville Street was like. I took a lot of photos of the 'apology walls', but I haven't gotten around to doing anything with them. But if you're interested, you can watch a short video I made here.

The photo above was taken in Maple Ridge; after a small get-together with a group of high school friends at the Black Sheep Pub, a few of us headed down to the pier out of nostalgia and then we got enticed by the wonders of long exposures.
A couple more shots can be viewed here.

10 June 11

touch to open door
I went to Steph's to watch the game. We drank so much beer and then I came home.

the Wonderful World of Color
We went back to Catal for breakfast because we liked it so much and their patio was so nice. Then we spent the day at California Adventure. We saw a fucking incredible stage production of Aladdin, and in the evening staked out a spot to watch The Wonderful World of Color, which is sort of a fountain/light/projector show on the water. But words can't describe how amazing it is. The photo above might give you an idea, but it's hard to capture scenes from Disney movies being projected onto a screen of water, or rainbow jets of water five stories high.
A few more photos here.

Monstro
Our first day in Disneyland happened to be Bat Day so there were a lot of parasols. And a lot of adorable goth children. After we'd all managed to get sunburned, we had dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant called Catal, and due to the enticing nature of tapas, ended up with a bill as long as my forearm.
A few more photos here.

snow in the streetlight
It snowed a little. Only in the night time, though. By the morning it was mostly slush.

29 December 10

it was really, really cold
I stayed home from work because of my wrist. In the evening Jeff and I braved the sub-zero temperatures and went to the Capilano Suspension Bridge to see it all lit up (my mom gave us free passes). We lasted less than an hour before I thought my feet might actually freeze and break off in little shards, so we left and warmed up with dinner at a pub.
A couple photos of the bridge can be viewed here.

18 December 10

blue lights
After the hockey game, I met up with Iain and Steph and others for sushi and then theatre sports on Granville Island. Always a good time, and man do I love having Iain back in town!
